Surrendering a Rabbit
DO NOT RELEASE A DOMESTIC RABBIT INTO THE WILD, THEY WILL NOT SURVIVE.
BHRS is a foster-based rescue with foster homes located in Northern Ohio (Fremont, Cleveland, Akron). At this time our foster homes are at or beyond capacity. Ohio rabbit shelters have been overwhelmed this past year with rabbits being dumped and owner’s relinquishing them. The wait-list for surrendering is long and with limited access.
If you need to surrender your rabbit it is recommended you contact your local humane society as they are better suited to handler owner surrenders. Due to the unprecedented numbers of people surrendering their pets humane societies may also have extremely long waitlists. It is recommended that you contact them as soon as possible.
Below is a list of Ohio Humane Societies and APLs that may accept rabbits. This is not an exhaustive list. It is recommended you search for humane societies in your county or neighboring counties.
If you would like to re-home your rabbit on your own it is not recommended to us Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and the like since rabbits are often used for nefarious purposes.
